idflfootball.wordpress.com/Something I want to do in my spare time. Nothing big and bold like these new leagues are trying to do. Just a small regional league that can be used to develop players and give them reasonable goals. Someday, good to have a dream right?

I respect your opinion, should I give up? or have fun with this? How far would you actually go with it?

it would be a "side" project. Nothing that I would drop my life to make this a money maker. It would be to have fun, a nice league that actually plays its games, doesn't have to travel far, plays in small arenas that do not cost much, so forth. It would be to show players to the game, nothing on the scale of the IFL, UIFL, PIFL. That would just be dangerous territory (i could do it, but not worth starting out like this)

I respect your opinion, should I give up? or have fun with this? Keep going with it. I think it is a valid idea. If you keep your scope fairly narrow, then it has a better chance than most of the alternative and arena leagues out there. The problem with most new leagues, regardless of the sport, is that they spread themselves too thin. They all operate under the assumption that a bigger footprint makes the league stronger, when it usually does the opposite. In addition, most leagues strive for larger cities in the hopes of landing the ever elusive TV contract. Despite the sheer volume of failed leagues out there, potential owners keep following the same path. So yes, a development league for indoor football is a strong idea. Building the league in a region that allows easy, low cost travel and a reasonable, achievable number of teams and fans is key. If you are in an area of cities with 1000-5000 seat arenas, then you have strong potential as a true development league. Actually, this makes me think of an alternative possibility to a true semi-pro development/minor league. What about a system modeled after soccer's PDL. College players only come for the season and don't get paid to maintain eligibility. They work FO jobs, selling tickets, etc. Host families or other accommodations are usually arranged. This gives players an opportunity to develop further in their typical off season. I would imagine there would be more FCS, D2, D3 and NAIA players involved, due to coach interference. It seems to work well for soccer with quite a few PDL grads going pro in NASL, USL, MLS, and even Europe. Just an alternative suggestion.

That is a great idea, I am suprised no one tried it.
And yeah most new leagues think of this as a get rich plan. I understand that I won't get rich and want to do this because I enjoy working in sports. I have most of the plans worked out, my next step is to find a few partners so we can get this going and start looking for teams/cities/arenas
Like the page on facebook so it starts to gain a little social media traction

Looks great Gate. Do you have any idea where youd like the teams to be regionally?

Looks great Gate. Do you have any idea where youd like the teams to be regionally? wherever garners the most interest. I am currently in the Boston area, so maybe here to start. If not, I am up to moving after I complete grad school next year.

After the popularity of the Hartford Franchise, the Boston area might be a great place to start. You could even consider the Youngstown/Warren/Pittsburgh Region as a smaller market. There is a great outdoor football legacy in that area.

If you do something affordable it may work, however the AFL2 team folded because it was so expensive, $15 was the cheapest ticket

Hey bud, I told you on Access, I was raised in Ytown too. Yeah the AF2 team folded, but that was arena ball in a brand new venue. Having a team play at YSU might be just what is needed to spark interest. There are many other potential venues in that area besides YSU.
