Might as well start a new thread just for the schedule. Looks like there won't be any inter-divisional play as it stands right now. Surely to cut down on transportation costs. On a map both these divisions make for nice little circuits for traveling for away games. I'm sure hoping they're working on getting one more team for the SFL North, right now you have only 3 teams playing each other twice. The SFL South has 4 teams playing each other twice. It would be nice to have all the teams play the same number of games for a change.

It is fine they do not travel...they need to find another team so everyone plays the same amount of games

However, then you run into the question of paying for that team. We saw examples in both the UFL and SFL last year of what happens when the league has to own teams and runs out of money. That's why we got shortened seasons.
If they can't get someone to pay for another team, at least they took the fairest route, with each division playing the same number of teams as everyone else in their division. It may not be perfect, put what in Alt-football ever is?

nope, I respect they are actually playing, even if it is glorified semi-pro ball

Not alot of viable alt outdoor football going on out there right now. And the SFL can at least boast of sending one player to the NFL last season. That's one more than the EFL, the NUSFL, and the New AFL put together.

Yup, if they actually worked in their communities, this can be a great thing

I noticed on the schedule that all the games are played on Thursdays and Saturdays. Any speculation out there on why those two days during the spring/summer?

Thats a good question. There's no College or Pro football in the spring, so why not play ball on Saturday and Sunday.

I think the last line of this story is the most interesting: That new teams will be considered for FUTURE seasons. All but saying the number of teams for this season has been more or less stabilized (LA being the exception). Now if only we could get a definitive answer as to how many teams will actually play in 2012. Do we go with the schedule on the official site? Or with the teams listed on the official site? Since they contradict each other I'm going to go with the schedule. Which seems to suggest New Orleans is out for this year. I really was hoping they would keep the league champs but it doesn't look promising.

Reviving this thread to point out that on the official site they announced Daytona and Lauderdale playing the first game on May 20th. But they followed up that announcement by saying the rest of the revised schedule would be announced "early next week." That was on April 19th. So by my calculations they're well over a week overdue. Will we be seeing the same BS that occured last season when the opening game was touted but the rest of the games were dribbled out a week or so in advance? The SFL almost seems bound and determined to avoid developing a fanbase at any cost. It seems once again that Petey is flying by the seat of his pants.....

I found this article regarding the Swampdogs, which has some information. The Swampdogs all looking at starting June 16. There were three things that struck me in the article: "Although the league Web site hasn’t been updated, the schedule has yet to be announced and the playing sites have yet to be secured, Southwest Florida will have a new professional football team sometime this summer, according to a news release." And you don't think some of these things are important? "A look at starfootballleague.com showed there were 10 teams in the league, but SFL founder Peter Huthwaite said he has been too busy to update the site." Too busy to update the website? You have to be kidding! You really don't care, do you Peter?! Hire someone to do that! For that matter, hire someone to build a decent website! Run it all through Facebook for all I care, but tell people what is going on. "Jay Lawrence, general manager of the new Southwest Florida Swamp Dogs of the Stars Football League, has targeted June 16 for the first of four games this season." Does this mean four games at home, or four games total? With this league, I'd believe either. www.news-press.com/article/20120423/SPORTS/304230037/Southwest-Florida-gets-new-football-team

Too busy to update the website? Other than the press releases almost nothing has changed on the site since last summer. In this day and age does Huthwaite not realize the first thing a serious potential investor would do is google the league? And imagine their reaction when they click on "Team Info" and see that the "Cleveland Ironmen" play in Little Rock, Arkansas. That would just be the first of many inconsistencies on the site that would most likely cause a serious prospect to not take this league seriously. Their official site is their "first impression." But who's got time to make a good first impression when you're busy looking for deep pockets, right?
