Anybody seen this one? This is a group promoting a variation of "rugby league" that more closely resembles the American game and can be played on U.S. gridirons. For those of you unfamiliar with the concept of rugby league, it's a game that's about halfway between full-out rugby (a.k.a. rugby union) and American football; the game has a striking resemblance to the way the North American game was played before they introduced the forward pass. They use a special down system (6 overall instead of 4 for every 10 yards), they still use the heel-back for snaps, and (like rugby) they don't use the heavy gladiator armor that the American game uses. However, rugby league also doesn't allow blocking. www.unitedrugbyleague.com/These guys basically want to create a rugby league that runs 11 to a side (partially to compensate for the narrower U.S. fields, I presume). It seems like they're looking for investors right now and are having a hard time finding them. Anybody think these guys can get off the ground?

Maybe. There are already a couple of Rugby leagues out there now. I'm not really into that subculture, so I don't know how much demand there is for a hybrid.
I thought the Wages of Win article they had on there was full of crap thought. You can't base everything on population and income. According to his ratings, Denver teams should be in trouble, but they aren't. No matter what the income or population, people in Denver support sports. It was the same with Omaha supporting the Nighthawks. The level of support far exceeded the size of the city.
