According to Daytona Barracudas Coach Culpepper on the Stars radio show tonight the SFL has an investor who wants a team in Austin, Texas for 2012. And he said the league is wanting a 3rd team in Florida next year as well. Are the Tuskers maybe coming back to life??? Just the fact they're talking expansion is great! He also said the league was still looking to place teams in at least a couple of the other markets they originally proposed. The two mentioned were Mobile and Little Rock. He also said they were even considering someplace in Ohio but didn't specify where. And increasing team rosters from 36 to around 50.

UPDATE: The league is planning for each team to have 5 home and 5 away games, 2 divisions, and a REAL Championship game for 2012 as well. (As per the Stars radio show).

Austin is a long way away, they better find some way to come up with Money to travel and support 50 players! Michigan was too far and could only play 2 games, how does Austin fit in?

Well they apparently have an investor who wants a team pretty bad there. It sounds like this year was a super cheap warm up to go full bore in 2012. Guess we'll all see soon enough....

still 8 and a half hours. That is rough travel at this level. But I guess if someone puts 1 mil into a team they can afford it!

Thats what I was thinking too. If youve got that kinda money then maybe so. I'm hoping that if they run this thing lean they'll attract more mid-level investors willing to put money up to a certain point. With the UFL it was all or nothing and the price tag was steep. Maybe with more 1M investors you can increase the league coffers a lot quicker.

Bad idea. If you're trying to keep costs contained, don't keep the rosters any bigger than you need to. Keep the rosters on the small side. 36 is probably as small as you should go, but for a short season like that, keeping it in the ballpark of about 40 or so should suffice.

Given the cost savings then yes, a 36 man roster would be wise financially. But the plan is for 10 games next season, which would probably necessitate larger rosters due to injuries. How big the rosters should be to accomodate for injuries I dont know.....

This is great for the league. They could resemble an actual football league next year.
