So on the official site the league is offering "investment opportunites" for anyone looking to purchase a franchise for 1.5M, with 350K down and the league financing the rest. They say that Daytona, Ft. Lauderdale, Mobile, and Little Rock are the teams up for sale. Curiously they don't mention Charleston or Vegas, but also didn't mention them a few days ago as expansion markets in 2012. So only Michigan and New Orleans have owners at this point. I remember reading somewhere that only Daytona was a league owned team, so did someone in Ft. Lauderdale back out? The other option is for someone to buy shares of the league itself, at 100K apiece. And Mr. Huthwaite is willing to sell up to 40% of the league to other individual investors. So.....is this a winning business strategy? Will it be sucessful, or fizzle? He apparently has one investor in Austin, TX ready to field a team for next year, so he's definately not picky if the money shows up and one of the four teams up for sale aren't purchased.

I think that was left over from last year. We'll have to wait and see what plans are for this year. I wish we could get the league to make an official spokesperson, where we could get some of this information.

They really do need some sort of informational conduit that can pass communication both ways. I emailed the league once on the official site a long time ago and never heard anything. It's like a big sealed drum when it comes to getting feedback from its fans.

It will be interesting to see if the SFL was able to keep from accumulating big debts and were able to pay the bills will be a step up from the UFL

The SFL wanted coaches to pay for the privilege of being and SFL coach. I suspect they have a lot less debt.

I was just thinking the same thing, but I think He is gonna stick it out until the very end.

This site talks about the first SLF season as already happening, so it must be fairly up to date. The cost of a franchise is still listed at 1.5 mil. They talk about planning to have costs of $800,000 per team, and playing in stadiums of 10,000 to 30,000 people. They don't list any specific cities, so I assume it's open to anyone. americancitizenusa.com/stars-football-financial-opportunity.htm

It's funny how easy and simple it makes it sound to turn a profit with a pro football team. Wonder if someone sold Hambrecht and co. this pitch a few years ago, lol. But what makes the SFL different is they've proven to be pretty hardcore with controlling the expenses as we've now seen. Almost to the point of embarrassment with their 14 hour bus rides but they do seem to be holding to the plan I guess.

who in their right mind would pay 1.5 million for a team?
How will these teams spend 800k??
and how will they gain 200k in profit?

Someone who is rich and sees this as a legitimate opportunity to own a professional football team at a much lower price than the NFL would offer, and doesn't want to have to deal with the community ownership of the arena league. Also, assume: if half of expenses is payroll, that's a 400k payroll. Divided among 40 players, that's a $10k salary. Not unreasonable for a minor pro league (over ten games, that's $1000 a game). Profits might be tough, but it's far more realistic of a cost projection than the UFL ever had.

From what I saw this season, I just personally would not spend that kind of money on this.

I get the impression that they are planning to upgrade the quality of play. If they don't, I'm with you on not paying for it.

From what I saw this season, I just personally would not spend that kind of money on this. Hulthwaite pretty much owned the entire league last year, and ran it on a shoestring. I'm not surprised the product was shoddy. That's why he's trying to draw investors. Heck, take a look at the UFL and how Hambrecht has muckity-mucked it up to see why the single-entity model generally doesn't work.
