But the question is where to put them Toledo? Grand Rapids? Fort Wayne? I think Grand Rapids and Toledo Akron would be good locations for a team. Maybe Columbus and Louisville as well (Louisville depending on transportation budgets). I think Louisville would be great. Papa Johns stadium is barely used, and Louisville is a great sports town. It would also tie in nicely for both Northern and Southern teams transportation-wise.

As I recall, there were several people in favor of Louisville for a UFL team. Can't say I've ever been there but it sounds good to me.

Louisville would be a great area. Extremely underrepresented in professional sport, top-50 market, and in a region that tends to embrace spring football.

If Louisville would get a team I know I would attend with it being only 2 hrs from the house. I think Papa Johns & Yum foods(kfc & taco bell) would make good corporate partners.

Canton at the Hall of Fame stadium would be cool If not Canton, then nearby Massillon, at the similarly sized Paul Brown Tiger Stadium, would be ideal as well. Perhaps even doing what the NFL wouldn't do: continue the legacy of the legendary Massillon Tigers!

Another possibility I stumbled across is Salem, Virginia. They're in the central/western part of the state away from DC and Norfolk. They'd be ideal if they got some teams in Ohio and Kentucky, and they have a very nice high school stadium that is the perfect size for the SFL. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salem_Football_Stadium

Wow now that's random! Salem, VA? If they're looking for a franchise in that part of the country let's just adjust it a little west and choose Knoxville. Great football town, real investor possibilities, and metro are-wise about 20X the size of salem, VA.

Great football town, real investor possibilities, and metro are-wise about 20X the size of salem, VA. Point taken, but if you put a team in Knoxville you're talking about playing games in the cavernous Neyland Stadium, which obviously would make Municipal Stadium look packed in comparison (and it takes a lot to do that). It's either that, trying to share Smokies Park, or cramming into Regal Stadium (which would work short-term but if the SFL ever grew to, say, UFL-caliber, they'd be in trouble). As for Salem, they host the D-III championship and it's always been supported very well. Salem seems quite underrated-- yes, it's small and isolated, but it also means there's very little else to do in the area. Much like Louisville, it has the potential to be embraced. From what I read, the Roanoke-Blacksburg area has a decent corporate base as well. It's also not that far (~100 miles) from Greensboro, NC. I personally think it deserves to at least be considered. I stumbled across it after reading that the UNGL (one of the leagues that never got off the ground a couple years back) was going to place one of its teams there.

Even if you have the right size stadium I just can't see where an investor would materialize for Salem, VA. Knoxville/ Definately. And Smokies park would be perfect for ther SFL too if they were willing to share it.

No professional league can seriously look at putting a franchise in a city with a population of 24k.

By way of comparison, the Daytona Beach Metro area is 500,000. However, since no one had good attendance, it may not matter as much where you put them.

That, and throw in nearby Blacksburg (of Va-Tech fame) and you have another 150k to play with. We're talking a minor league here, so a 450k base is a feasible number to work with.
