The SFL is now saying they want to have eight new teams next year! I could see four more, but I think considering this year, eight is too many unless they have owners already lined up for them. And they have to be a lot better organized, they can't get away with making up as they go again.
Possibilities: Charleston, Mobile, Little Rock, Las Vegas, LA, Orlando, Austin + ?...

What, did Andrew Haines end up with his mitts on the league? Hulthwaite needs to slow down. As the old TV series said, eight is enough. Stay regional, build yourself some fan bases in your markets, and don't grow too fast. You don't have to be UFL-slow with the expansion, you're not aiming for NFL caliber ball here, just enough to be a quality pro option on par with the indoor leagues.

Unless there is a sudden influx of cash, expanding to 8 teams is way too much.

I think Huthwaite has been prone to making comments 'off the cuff" depending on who he's speaking to at the time. I think he throws the number 8 out there for the potential investors but he probably doesn't believe it himself. That's a whole lotta cash that has to materialize in the next 6 months of so. I would be happy with 8 teams total next year but would also be content with 6 solid franchises next year as well.

You mean like claiming mysterious phone campaigns demanding the Coyotes play in the Championship game every year? lol

They might have to put in a second line at SFL headquarters!

If they have the money, I say go for it. But nothing wrong with slow and steady growth, 6 teams in the leagues 2nd year is enough of an accomplishment in itself.

Part of the problem is we never really got to see what their plan was for year 1. With the struggles of trying to start a new league, a bad economy and an aborted attempt to take advantage of the NFL lockout, it was never clear how many teams they had planned for in the first place. Now having said that, the max I can see for year two are 10 teams.

I really do hope they can take it slow and steady with their growth. Like perhaps 2 new teams each season for the next four years or so. Maybe with the cost of their franchises being less than 10% of the UFL's franchises that could happen. Stay on solid financial ground and slowly prosper. Too many examples out there of leagues growing too fast. And one good example of a league growing too slow and then shrinking. I think we all know who that might be.....

Jamestown, NY or vicinity would be an interesting choice. They support baseball and hockey fairly well, but don't have any indoor football teams. They have a semi-pro team that plays in the summer and draws well. For a small market, they'd be an interesting choice. Of course, I'm from that vicinity so I'm biased.

Teams need to go up North, no way Michigan can travel all that way again

But the question is where to put them Toledo? Grand Rapids? Fort Wayne?

Hey Broncofan, congrats on your 100th post! As far as where to put them, the official site said they would consider anyplace they feel an ownership group could develop a fanbase. For the cost of the franchise an SFL team could spring up just about anywhere....

But the question is where to put them Toledo? Grand Rapids? Fort Wayne? I think Grand Rapids and Toledo Akron would be good locations for a team. Maybe Columbus and Louisville as well (Louisville depending on transportation budgets).
