I hadn't been checking the SFL site much as I thought nothing would be happening until after the end of December. Shows what I know. The SFL has announced two new teams, the Tampa Orange and the Canton Bulldogs. They also announced the Ft Lauderdale Barracudas will play some of their games in Freeport, Bahamas. starsfootballleague.com/category/news/Canton was a previously announced possibility. And, it's a (small) link to the old Canton team. Tampa is new, we never saw them discussed, but it makes sense. The aren't that far from some of the other teams, which should help on costs. Hopefully they actually have an owner. The Barracudas playing in the Bahamas is the real surprise. I hope it's not being done just for the publicity.

Yeah, I just saw that Canton & Tampa are nice selections, But the only way I see The Tampa Orange working is the same way the Cleveland Browns work

blah, Canton has been slated to get a team for the past 5 years. I remember when the UNGL was going to be the Canton Bulldogs
I hope this one works out, however I am going back to grad school, so I won't be in Ohio anymore to check things out.

Canton ought to help get the Michigan Coyotes off the ground; it was a location I know we've bantered about before.
Hmm... Tampa, Canton (Cleveland), Fort Lauderdale (Miami), New Orleans, Pontiac (Detroit)... maybe they should call it the Suburban Football League!

However, I do have one bit of concern about the Bulldogs name... it's the fact that Canton-McKinley High School still uses it. I know all of the SFL teams use the "Football Club" (FC) designation at the end, but will that be enough to get around it? (It worked for the New Orleans Jazz FC, but the previous user was a basketball team.)

Nothing shows up on a US trademark search. I suppose there could be a state trademark. Do high school teams trademark their names?

well maybe Canton McKinley will welcome that, because every time this new team hits the newspaper, people will think they are talking about high school football

Aren't the Canton Bulldogs an NFL trademark?

Aren't the Canton Bulldogs an NFL trademark? After looking at some things on the web, they might. We'll have to see how this plays out.

Playing games in the Bahamas? Considering the SFL's preferred mode of travel is by bus that should be interesting....I'm guessing the first road team heading there will get stuck in the sand at the edge of the water and have to forfeit its game lol

Aren't the Canton Bulldogs an NFL trademark? The NFL doesn't control its teams' trademarks; the individual teams do, and the NFL Bulldogs have been dead since 1927.

Yeah, I have a feeling the whole Bahamas thing... not going to pan out. The guy's got a good business model but, let's face it, he has a penchant for making ludicrous statements a lot, and this is only the most recent one.
