I just looked up stadiums in the Bahamas. Freeport has the Grand Bahamas Stadium, with a capacity of 3100 people. Pretty tiny. Then again the Jazz were drawing like 300 a game, so that is 10 times what a normal SFL team draws lol

Yeah, I have a feeling the whole Bahamas thing... not going to pan out. The guy's got a good business model but, let's face it, he has a penchant for making ludicrous statements a lot, and this is only the most recent one. Maybe he just needed a way to take his vacation off on his taxes. "I was...scouting locations for teams! Yea, that's it. That $5000 receipt for the Pussy Cat Lounge? Meeting with investors. Same for the one at the Turfman's Club, looking at a field."

Perhaps. Although, I must say... Freeport is only 65 miles off the Florida coast and is a free-trade zone. If there's any viable way to get an SFL team outside the U.S., other than Canada, that may be the easiest option. SFL's small-time enough that it would work in a stadium like Grand Bahama.
Doable, but like I said, unlikely.

Just out of curiosity do the Bahamas have ANY history of even following American football? As a former British colony I can't imagine they would pay much attention to it. Yes, most of the tourists there are American, but who goes to the Bahamas to watch football?

OK, so now the SFL is announcing 3 new teams for 2012: Port St. Lucie, Fort Pierce, and Fort Myers, Florida. According to Pete Huthwaite they "have fulfilled our goal of serving deserving but underserved football markets in Florida." Huh? When did this become the stated goal of the SFL? This is new to me.

Looking at a map of Florida Port St. Lucie and Fort Pierce appear to be about 10 miles away from each other. So I guess instead of a Greyhound bus they could just use a city bus instead to get to their games. This is really, really weird.

The only logic I can see with this is money. Maybe they got two people in the area willing to put up $$ for teams, and didn't want to have to only get to keep one of them. That being said, I do agree, it is weird.

The SFL has a fascination with Florida. I think they have a fascination with transportation costs. Of the 6 games played last season only 2 (both involving the Coyotes) had the away team opponent using air transportation. The other 4 (including the infamous 15-16 hour bus ride Lauderdale had to endure to play New Orleans) were all by ground transport. maybe this is Huthwaite's idea of keeping costs low early on, I don't know. I'm still hoping Canton gets an expansion team so Michigan has at least one opponent close by if this is the case.

That, and as I mentioned a long time ago, there are an abundance of spring training stadiums and high school football stadiums in Florida. For a small-time, limited-footprint league like the SFL is, it makes sense to put most of its teams there.

Hopefully they are relocating to places where they have owners. I don't mind of they move, as long as there is a logical reason. Now keeping the Racers name on a team on Port St Lucie, that I'm not so sure of.

I'm curious if they'll keep the same colors and uni's too. The Racers actually don't look too bad.
